Broken Parts Everywhere

It was a red letter today mountain biking. About half way through with the ride I busted up my freehub trying to climb a rather steep section of trail. The freehub produced a quite large clunk and would no longer coast. This put me in a tough situation as my favorite part of riding is coasting.

Upon inspecting the bike when I arrived home I found that the bottom bracket was uncharacteristically rough. Sure enough I can blame it on my poor performance on today’s ride and my poor performance in the last few rides. It really has felt like something is holding me back lately perhaps this grinding bottom bracket is the culpurit and not my precarious fitness level.

Tonight I purchased a new wheelset with XT hubs and Rhino Lite rims and a Raceface FR BB to replace my broken Deore hub and Truvativ BB. Had I been feeling particularly wild I would have splurged on the new LX crankset with Hollowtech 2 outboard bearings. Oh well maybe next time.
